Some of your topics we covered;

Anti-Social Behaviour – Officials talked us through some of the additional security measures that have been taken, both at Northumberland Park and across the network generally. These ranged from additional CCTV and increased security personnel, to school visits and collaboration with the police.

Scheduling – We had a productive conversation about metro timetables and punctuality. Nexus reassured me they are in the process of developing a robust, carefully considered plan in terms of scheduling. They are aware of the challenges and need for improvement to the service, and are working hard to get it where it needs to be.

New Fleet – Officials talked us through some of the next steps in getting the (extremely swish!) new trains rolled out. I was so impressed with the new model, and Nexus showed us all the ways their extensive public consultation had been implemented; from hand rail design to accessibility, it was clear communities have been listened to in the latest design.

Network Integration – We talked a lot about how the linking of transport services across the region would be extremely beneficial to Cramlington and Killingworth constituents, where buses are the primary mode of public transport. I heard about Nexus’ long term vision and advocacy on this issue. It was so exciting to hear about their collaboration with Northern Rail and ideas around the Northumberland Line, which will be game changing for residents in the northern part of our constituency – very exciting stuff!
