Addressing Military Sexual Trauma and its impact
Seeking commitment from the Minister of State for Veteran Affairs
Last month I met with Dudley based charity, Forward Assist. One of the topics discussed during the visit was the impact of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) on veterans and serving personnel. Forward Assist explained the scale of the issue, and what they are doing locally to support individuals who have experienced this and are working through this trauma.
I raised this issue at Defence Questions, and the Minister of State for Veteran Affairs agreed to meet with Forward Assist and myself to discuss it further. The impact on those who face MST is immense, and it is an issue that is often under-discussed. I am pleased the Government is open to discussing this issue, and I hope this will lead to greater recognition of the challenges faced by those who have experienced MST.
