Championing tourism in Northumberland
In a debate on Tourism in Northumberland I had the opportunity to highlight some of the brilliant places that make people want to visit Cramlington and Killingworth. We are lucky to live so close to beautiful beaches, incredible local art and fantastic nature reserves all so close to one another.
But the reason that so many come to Northumberland and want to keep coming back is the friendly and warm embrace of us locals. I know many of us are always excited to share the fantastic things we have to offer in Northumberland.
However, the tourism industry in the UK faces significant challenges, especially in areas outside London and the immediate South East of England. I am glad that the Government recognises that tourism must be part of our nations industrial strategy and that improving the working relationship with the hospitality sector is a priority for them.
I welcome the support offered by the Government to work with our New North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, to put Northumberland and the wider North East at the heart of the UK’s future tourism. I was glad that Joe Morris MP, the Member of Parliament for Hexham, was able to secure this debate. Getting important debates like this parliamentary time means that we can raise the need for more to be done to support tourism to Northumberland.
