Justice needs to be delivered to Post Office Horizon scandal victims
Emma Foody MP, Labour and Co-operative MP for Cramlington and Killingworth, has called for justice to be delivered to people impacted by the Post Office, including one of her Cramlington constituents.
In the House of Commons, Ms Foody raised how her constituent’s life had been devastated as a result of the Post Office Horizon scandal, losing her job and home, and leading to her being a target of abuse in her community.
Ms Emma Foody MP said:
“The Minister will be aware of a Northumberland constituent of mine who was a victim of the faulty Horizon systems leading to her losing her job, losing her business and becoming a victim of abuse in her own community.
“Despite my assistance, my constituent remains without an outcome to her claim. Will the Minister please look into this case and ensure that her claim is progressed as quickly as possible so that we can ensure that she receives justice?”
Gareth Thomas MP, Minister for Services, Small Business and Exports replied:
“My honourable friend describes just one example of the terrible human impact the Post Office scandal has had on many, many good people up and down our country, who served their communities and who were treated unbelievably badly by the post office. “I will of course look into the particular case that she has raised with me. We’re determined to do more to help, not just her constituent, but to help all those who are still waiting for compensation.”
Speaking after the question, Emma Foody MP said:
“Like many people, my constituent had their life turned upside down by the Post Office Horizon scandal, taking her job, her home and her standing in the community.
“I know that this government is deeply committed to ensuring victims and their families receive both the compensation and justice they deserve as quickly as possible.
“She, like many across the country, has been fighting for justice for too long and I will continue to work with her and with the government to ensure that her compensation claim is processed, and justice is delivered”
