Raising the sudden and unexpected closure of Dinnington Post Office in Parliament
Emma Foody, Member of Parliament for Cramlington and Killingworth, has raised the sudden and unexpected closure of a crucial local post office in Dinnington in the House of Commons.
Dinnington’s Post Office was suddenly closed on Tuesday 8 April with little notice provided to the community following the withdrawal of the current premises. Following the closure of Dinnington Post Office, Ms Foody contacted the Post Office highlighting the importance of the services to her local community and launched a local petition, now signed by over 200 residents.
In Parliament today, Ms Foody raised the issue of the importance of post office services in Dinnington, stating “Dinnington village in my constituency recently experienced the sudden and unexpected closure of its Post Office. We all know…how important post office services are for providing banking services, opportunities to pay bills, or ID services. I’ve set up a petition, 200 residents have signed it and I’ve been in touch with the Post Office. Can we have a debate about the importance of post office services to communities like mine?”
In response, the Leader of the House of Commons committed to ensuring that an update was provided and highlighted the importance of local post offices.
Following the exchange, Ms Foody added “People were shocked by the unexpected and sudden closure of Dinnington Post Office which provided vital services for people in Dinnington and neighbouring villages.
“It is vital that we restore services as soon as possible and I have been in touch with the Post Office and will continue to support any action to ensure that these services are restored for local people”.
