Growth needs to be delivered and felt in all parts of the country
Cramlington and Killingworth’s Emma Foody MP spoke of the need to deliver growth in all parts of the country, whilst questioning the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions, taken by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ms Foody highlighted recent announcements including the review of the Green Book, the infrastructure strategy and the £1.8bn for transport infrastructure in the North East.
The Question follows previous interventions in Parliament on the importance of investing in upgrades at Moor Farm and Seaton Burn roundabouts, including leading a debate in Parliament held last week on the issue.
The North East MP said:
“Growth needs to be delivered and felt in all parts of the country. The infrastructure strategy, changes to the Green Book, and 1.8billion secured for the North East are a clear demonstration of our commitment to that.
“In my area, Moor Farm roundabout is blocking growth, and causing misery to people locally.
“Does the Deputy Prime Minister agree that improving infrastructure in the North, like at Moor Farm, would show how we are investing in all parts of our country?”
In response, the Deputy Prime Minister said:
“She’s absolutely right, the previous government didn’t have a plan for areas like the North East and I know she has been a champion regarding the Moor Farm roundabout. This government is changing the situation by investing £15.6bn for local transport projects across the country, opening access to jobs and improving living standards, including in the North East.
Following the exchange, Emma Foody added:
“For too long, communities across the North East didn’t get the investment they deserved under successive Conservative governments.
“This government are putting that right, only weeks ago announcing £1.8bn to support our region and finally changing the formulas used to unlock investment in our communities, disadvantaged by the previous Conservative Green Book.
“Growth and opportunity must be felt and delivered in our communities and one way to do this is through investment in Moor Farm and Seaton Burn to unlock the potential of my communities, supporting local people, business and housing”
