Recent engagement with our fire service and supporting local firefighters

Since being elected I have by engaging with fire service to really get a handle on how we can best support them.
We kicked off with the electric atmosphere at the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service West Hartford Fire Station Open Day. It was lovely to see it so packed with families along supporting the event, raising money for The Firefighters Charity and learning about being safe with some really interesting demonstrations.
I then met with the incredible Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service – I’m so grateful for the commitment and courage of the team who work tirelessly to keep our communities in Newcastle and North Tyneside safe. We had some really interesting discussions about both current and future challenges facing the fire service, which gave much food for thought.
It is really great when talks culminate in productive action and momentum. It was great to have John in Parliament, joining the Fire Brigades Union lobby and speaking to me about Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service & Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and the challenges facing the fire service and firefighters across our region.
I am delighted to support such an essential service, and will continue to do so in pride and admiration of our local firefighters.
