Moor Farm and Seaton Burn Roundabouts holding back growth, investment and opportunity
Cramlington and Killingworth MP Emma Foody has again made the case for investment in Moor Farm and Seaton Burn Roundabouts in Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament during Treasury Questions on the steps the Government is taking to increase economic growth in the North East, Ms Foody said:
“The Combined Authority has identified a key growth corridor sweeping across my constituency, but a historic lack of investment to upgrade the Moor Farm and Seaton Burn Roundabouts causes relentless disruption. It holds back growth, investment and opportunity.
“There is a business plan, it’s in the North East Growth Plan and Road Investment Strategy. Does the Minister agree this is exactly the sort of scheme this Labour government should support to boost economic growth in every region?”.
In response, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury stated “The government is committed to improving roads, we agreed a £4.8bn settlement for National Highways and funded a £500m uplift for local roads in this financial year. Funding for RIS3 programme that she mentioned will be considered in Phase 2 of the Spending Review”.
Since being elected in July, Ms Foody has campaigned for investment in Moor Farm and Seaton Burn Roundabouts, speaking during Treasury Questions, Transport Questions, in a debate on the Green Book review to unlock infrastructure investment, and has met with the Minister for the Future of Roads, Highways England and the North East Combined Authority.
Following her question, Ms Foody added:
“Moor Farm and Seaton Burn Roundabouts form part of a key growth corridor for the North East. Their current condition holds back investment, growth and opportunity for residents in South East Northumberland and the North West of North Tyneside.
“Improvements would help to unlock investment and boost growth for our region, and I will continue to make the case ahead of the Spending Review for investment in these key pieces of regional infrastructure”.
