Emma congratulates volunteers working to make Seaton Sluice ‘Heart Safe’

This week Emma Foody, Labour and Co-operative MP for Cramlington and Killingworth met with the dedicated team of volunteers in Seaton Sluice working to make it ‘Heart Safe’.
Local charity, Seaton Sluice Defibrillator Group, works in Seaton Sluice to purchase, install and maintain public access defibrillators. The group has now secured 16 defibrillators across Seaton Sluice, with the volunteers maintaining and servicing the defibrillators.
As well as working to provide access to defibrillators, the charity has provided free CPR and Defibrillator Awareness training to residents across Seaton Sluice and across Northumberland, with the training covering ‘what to do in an emergency’ and the difference between a ‘heart attack and a cardiac arrest’. The training has been provided to local schools, community groups and businesses.
In addition to providing advice to other groups on how they can fundraise to install defibrillators in their local community.
Following her meeting with the Chair of the Group, Chris and other volunteers, Emma Foody MP said:
“It was amazing to hear how the group of residents have done something so amazing in their local community, that has made a real difference and will help to keep their community safe.
“I was so inspired by their passion and dedication to getting defibrillators installed across Seaton Sluice, how they have support training for hundreds of people to ensure they know how they can help in an emergency and their support to other organisation across Northumberland and the North East to set up similar groups in their community.
“I would encourage anyone to reach out to Seaton Sluice Defibrillator Group if they can help support their work, or to see how the group could support similar groups in their area”.
