Record NHS investment securing “more appointments, earlier diagnosis, and the ability to deliver more efficient, high-quality care
Cramlington and Killingworth MP Emma Foody has welcomed record investment for the NHS that is helping to deliver lower waiting times and better outcomes for local people.
At the Spending Review, record investment was announced for the NHS, including real terms increased in day-to-day spending.
Speaking in the House of Commons Ms Foody said:
“This government has secured record investment in the NHS which for local people across my constituency means more appointments, earlier diagnosis, and the ability to deliver more efficient, high-quality care.
“After years of underinvestment and increasing waiting times…these first steps to restoring a health service which is fit for the future and there for people in my constituency when they need it”
In response, the Leader of the House of Commons, Lucy Powell set out the action being taken stating that:
“This government has taken swift action to bring down waiting lists, down by almost 200,000 in a year, and 100.000 more patients treated. That’s why we’ve put in the extra money into our NHS because it is absolutely critical to our economy and to the health of everyone in the country that we get the waiting lists down”.
Following the exchange, Ms Foody added:
“The NHS was left in a dire state by the previous Conservative government. People couldn’t see a GP, struggled to get a dentist and waiting lists got out of control. This has a huge impact on people left often in limbo and harmed the economy.
“It is vital that people are able to access timely and appropriate treatment, or to see a GP or dentist, and under this government, we have seen record investment and waiting lists coming down. I know this is having a real impact on the lives of local people“.
