Neighbourhood policing boost for Northumbria Police
Cramlington and Killingworth MP Emma Foody has welcomed investment from the Labour government to deliver more police on the beat in Northumbria Police.
The £200m investment from the Labour Government is the start of delivering 13,000 neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs by summer 2029.
The initial boost in funding will fund the equivalent of 95 new neighbourhood officers, 27 PCSOs and 30 specials for Northumbria Police.
The increase follows years of Northumbria Police, and other police forces, being hollowed out under successive Conservative governments. Ms Foody has previously spoken in Parliament about the need to tackle anti-social behaviour and nuisance bikes that cause misery to too many communities.
Welcoming the announcement, Emma Foody MP said:
“No one should feel unsafe in their own community, and I know that crime, anti-social behaviour and nuisance off-road bikes can cause real misery for many.
“This Labour government is taking action, increasing the number of neighbourhood officers, PCSOs and Specials to ensure our communities are safer, introducing Respect Orders and strengthening powers to tackle the problem of bikes and vehicles being used anti-socially”.
“These increases are just the beginning of restoring police numbers and safety in communities”.
