Road Safety Strategy must address infrastructure like Moor Farm – Emma Foody MP
Concerns with road accidents at Moor Farm roundabout were raised in Parliament as part of Cramlington and Killingworth’s Emma Foody MP’s ongoing campaign for investment in the roundabout.
This week the government published the Road Safety Strategy setting out a series of measures to improve safety on the roads.
Speaking in Parliament, Ms Foody raised the situation at Moor Farm roundabout, a notorious accident hotspot, as part of her campaign for investment to upgrade the roundabout. Ms Foody said:
“At the end of 2025 there were a number of serious accidents at Moor Farm roundabout in my constituency leading to hospitalisations and serious delays in the network.
“The Minister knows very well my campaign for improvements at Moor Farm that were long neglected by the previous government, which I will continue to press for as part of the Road Investment Strategy. Can she say a little about how these two strategies will interact and hopefully unlock these vital improvements”.
In response, the Minister for Local Transport confirmed that “We’ve had a number of conversations about investments in infrastructure and road safety terminal the top priority for National Highways”.
Following the exchange, Ms Foody added:
“For far too long, Moor Farm has been a hazard for drivers, caused misery to local people, and has held back growth for in the North East. Last year saw several accidents at the roundabout with hospitalisations and huge disruption locally.
“The roundabout has been left for far too many years without the investment and the problem has got worse. Frankly it should have been upgraded years ago.
“I continue to campaign for improvements and meet with Ministers and this week with the Chief Executive of National Highways, with an announcement due later this Spring”.
